Privacy policy.
Last updated: June 16, 2026. This policy explains what personal information Class Action Newsletter ("we," "us," or "our") collects when you use classactionnewsletter.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Class Action Newsletter operates the consumer class action settlement directory at https://classactionnewsletter.com (the "Site"). We are an independent information publisher — not a law firm, settlement administrator, or court. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at privacy@classactionnewsletter.com.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through the Site, our email newsletters, and related services we operate under the Class Action Newsletter brand. It does not apply to third-party websites you reach through our directory — including official settlement administrator claim portals — which have their own privacy practices.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Site, we may collect the following categories of information:
Information you provide directly
- Email address and newsletter preferences when you subscribe — including alert frequency (instant or weekly) and category selections.
- Contact information and message content when you email us or use our contact page (name, email address, topic, and message).
- Unsubscribe tokens embedded in newsletter links so you can manage your subscription without signing in.
Information stored in your browser
Several Site features store data locally on your device using browser storage (such as localStorage). This data is not transmitted to our servers unless a feature explicitly says otherwise:
- Claim Wallet entries — case names, submission dates, confirmation numbers, estimated payouts, and optional attachment metadata you choose to save.
- Smart Scan / quiz selections — U.S. state and brand preferences used to filter settlement results in your session.
- Community payout reports — anonymous "received" or "still waiting" votes on individual cases.
- Fast Alert referrals — recipient contact details and optional sender email you enter when alerting friends about a settlement.
- Investigation intake drafts — dates, descriptions, and consent flags you submit through investigation forms (stored locally in current builds).
You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings. Clearing storage may reset your saved wallet entries and preferences.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data — pages viewed, referring URL, approximate location derived from IP address, browser type, operating system, and similar technical data collected through analytics tools.
- Interaction events — such as settlement views, filter use, newsletter sign-ups, claim-link clicks, and feature engagement, collected to understand how readers use the directory.
- Server and security logs — IP address, request timestamps, and error diagnostics generated by our hosting infrastructure.
- Email engagement metrics — open and link-click data for messages sent through our email delivery provider, where permitted by law and your settings.
How we collect information
- Directly from you when you subscribe, contact us, or interact with Site features.
- Automatically through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies when you browse the Site (see Cookies below).
- From service providers that host, deliver email for, or analyze use of the Site on our behalf.
We do not knowingly buy lists of personal information. We do not collect government ID numbers, payment card numbers, or Social Security numbers through the Site.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Deliver, personalize, and improve the settlement directory and related features.
- Send newsletters and transactional messages you request, including welcome and unsubscribe confirmations.
- Respond to tips, corrections, press inquiries, and other messages you send us.
- Measure readership, diagnose errors, and protect against abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
- Comply with law, enforce our Terms of Use, and protect our rights and users.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to serve third-party advertising on the Site. We do not share subscriber emails with defendants, settlement administrators, or law firms listed in the directory.
Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal information on the following bases:
- Consent — for optional communications such as marketing newsletters, where required. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
- Contract — to provide features you request, such as delivering alerts you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Site, understand aggregate readership, and respond to inquiries, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law.
Cookies and similar technologies
We and our analytics partners use cookies and similar technologies to remember preferences and understand Site traffic. These may include:
- Analytics cookies — we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure page views and feature usage. Google may set cookies such as
_gaand process IP addresses and device identifiers. Learn more at Google's Privacy Policy and opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. - Strictly necessary storage — limited browser storage for UI state and locally saved wallet data as described above.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking analytics cookies will not prevent you from using the directory, but some measurement features may be less accurate.
How we share information
We share personal information only in these circumstances:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract — including hosting (Supabase), email delivery (UniOne), and analytics (Google). They may use your information only to perform services for us.
- Legal and safety — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Class Action Newsletter, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to this policy or notice to you.
When you click an official "File a claim" link, you leave our Site and interact directly with the settlement administrator or its vendors. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Data retention
- Newsletter subscribers — retained while your subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterward to honor unsubscribe requests, resolve disputes, and comply with law (typically up to three years unless a longer period is required).
- Contact correspondence — retained as long as needed to respond and maintain an audit trail of corrections and tips.
- Analytics and server logs — retained in aggregated or de-identified form according to our analytics providers' settings, generally between 14 and 26 months for GA4 event data.
- Browser-local data — persists until you clear it in your browser; we do not control retention on your device.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Port your information in a machine-readable format where technically feasible.
- Opt out of marketing emails at any time.
Newsletter unsubscribe: every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You may also email privacy@classactionnewsletter.com with the address you used to subscribe.
We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 30–45 days). We may need to confirm your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, provides additional rights. In the preceding 12 months we have collected the categories described in "Information we collect" above. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
California residents may request to:
- Know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected.
- Delete personal information, subject to exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising privacy rights.
Submit requests to privacy@classactionnewsletter.com. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf; we may require proof of authorization. We do not knowingly sell personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK where applicable). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact privacy@classactionnewsletter.com and we will delete it promptly.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data we process — including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and vendor security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
We are based in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have data protection laws different from your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EEA/UK.
Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" signals. Because there is no uniform industry standard, we do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. You can control analytics cookies through your browser and the Google opt-out tools linked above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be posted on this page; where required by law, we will provide additional notice (for example, by email to active subscribers). Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
